Simon Royce first appeared for the Gills in an impressive three game loan spell from Queens Park Rangers at the latter part of 2006-07 season. Following his release from Q.P.R Royce joined the Gills on a permanent basis in August 2007 and instantly claimed the goalkeepers jersey.
Simon's outstanding form made him a huge hit with supporters resulting in him being named Player of the Year for 2007/08. He further delighted fans by putting pen to paper on a new one year contract in May 2008.
Royce began his career in non-league football with Heybridge Swifts where his displays earned him a league opportunity with Southend United. He enjoyed a 7 year stint at Roots Hall before moving on to Charlton Athletic, Leicester City and Queens Park Rangers.
