Dave Martin
Not many players have had the privilege of playing for both Gillingham and Wimbledon, but one that has is DAVE MARTIN, although perhaps that's not too surprising because he played for most clubs in his career! BBC Radio Kent's Matt Davison reminds us of a real midfield competitor:
Dave Martin was brought to Gillingham by Tony Pulis in the summer of 1995. An experienced central midfield player, and a natural born leader, Dave was given the club captaincy before he'd even played a single match for the club.
At the time he arrived the club was about to witness its biggest transformation. A new manager and a new chairman brought with it a new captain, and although previous armband holder Richard Green was an integral part of the squad that season, it was Dave who led the side out.
In an exciting start to the season, Gillingham raced to the top of the Third Division table. Whilst the pretty stuff was done by the likes of O'Connor, Bailey and Fortune-West, Martin's job was the gritty stuff in midfield.
Although his contribution often went unnoticed, it was only when Martin was missing through either injury or suspension that his absence became clear.

Gillingham were eventually overtaken at the top of the table by Preston but completed the promotion that seemed obvious for the bulk of the season, with Martin's leadership on the pitch as crucial as Pulis' off it.
Maybe it wasn't so surprising Martin should lead a team to promotion. He'd also been part of the Wimbledon squad who went up to the top flight in 1986 and was in the Southend side who went up in 1987, 1990, and 1991.
In a 17-year professional career, Dave also played for Millwall, Bristol City, Northampton, Leyton Orient and Brighton.
