Tony Cascarino
Ask a Gills supporter to name a striker from the eighties and the majority of them will come up with the name of Tony Cascarino.
BBC Radio Kent's Matt Davison reflects on a great career:
Famously signed from Kent League Crockenhill for "a set of tracksuits" in January 1982, Cas came in for his debut away to Burnley the following month and scored the first of his 110 goals for the club in his third appearance, a 6-1 win over Wimbledon.
Within four years he had become a regular for his country, the Republic of Ireland. In Cascarino's first full season, 1982-83, he scored 19 goals, and in his subsequent seasons he went on to net tallies of 15, 20, 18 and 22.
His spell at Gillingham included the FA Cup marathon with Everton and the great play-off campaign of 1987 in which he scored the winner against Bolton to get the Gills there, a hat-trick in the first leg of the semi-final with Sunderland, and two in the away leg.
The following summer Cascarino was sold to Millwall for £225,000, a then record, even though his absence wasn't initially noticed too much on the pitch - in the first two months after his departure the Gills hit 8 and 10 in consecutive home games.
Cas went on to play for Aston Villa, Celtic and eventually Chelsea, for whom he played 40 games and won an FA Cup winners medal.

Cascarino then went on to enjoy a career overseas in French football, where he's still involved in football.
With well over 70 caps for his country he was also one of the Republic of Ireland's greatest servants, even though he admitted in his autobiography he didn't have a drop of green blood in his body and should never have played for them!
