Gills Manager Mark Stimson was in buoyant mood after securing the signing of his main summer transfer target Mark McCammon.

The powerful striker put pen to a paper on a three year contract with Gillingham and Stimson revealed it has been a lengthy pursuit.

Mark Stimson greets Mark McCammon

"I first spoke to Mark eight weeks ago so it's been a long wait.  When someone of his calibre becomes available you've got to act quickly but there were several clubs chasing his signature.  Fair play to Mark he stuck to his word and I'm delighted to have signed him to a three year deal"

Stimson is confident McCammon will have a major impact on the side "What Mark brings to the club is exactly what we were lacking last season and that is a target man.  He's a really good size at 6 foot 5 and that's what we've been missing up front"

McCammon may be tall but Gills fans needn't worry that Stimson will be resorting to the long ball game, "In my opinion Doncaster were the best footballing side in League One last season and Mark was an important part of that team, so we will not be changing our playing style"
